In the 2015 Kechi Strategic Plan, residents expressed their vision for a vibrant, downtown Arts and Business District in the heart of the city. Original graphic renditions captured elements which will expand downtown opportunities for artists, crafters, and different types of small business.
Master Plan
In 2017, Kechi was awarded a Wichita Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (WAMPO) Walkable Places Grant to develop an Arts and Business District Master Plan. The planning process began in 2018 with residents and business owners convening at a public meeting on September 12th to review ideas and concepts.
In 2018, Kechi secured a $1.5 million construction grant from the Wichita Area Metropolitan Planning Organization to improve the Oliver and Kechi Road (61st Street) intersection.
On March 14, 2019, the City Council formally adopted the plan by resolution. Construction of the Oliver and Kechi Road (61st Street) intersection is scheduled to begin in Spring 2021.
